MS Dhoni’s Biography

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born in Ranchi, India, currently known as Jharkhand in the Lwali village. He grew up together with his sister Jayanti Gupta and brother Narendra Singh Dhoni.

From a very young age, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was cricket-mad. He was a big fan of Adam Craig Gilchrist, an Australian cricket commentator, and a previous captain for India’s cricket team.

AT school, MS Dhoni excelled in badminton and football. But, one day, his football coach sent him to play cricket for a local cricket club where his natural wicket-keeping talents came to light. This kicked off Dohni’s career as he became the wicket-keeper at the Commando cricket club (1995–1998).

Сricket career

In 1998, Dhoni was selected by Deval Sahay to play for the Central Coal Fields Limited (CCL) team and helped the team make it to the A division.

Following this, Sahay pushed for Dhoni’s selection in the Bihar team. In less than a year, Dhoni went from playing in CCL to the Bihar Ranji team.

Dhoni was included in the Bihar U-19 and scored 176 runs in 5 matches. Dhoni would go on to make a half-century in his debut match scoring 68 in the second innings against the Assam cricket team. Dhoni then scored his maiden first-class century against Bengal in a losing cause.

The captain of Bengal in the 1960s, Prakash Poddar, saw Dhoni play for Jharkhand at a match in Jamshedpur and sent a report to the National Cricket Academy. MS Dhoni was picked for India A squad. The then Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, saw the potential in Dhon and eventually became the one responsible for bringing a legend to life.

On December 23, 2004, MS Dhoni began his One-Day International (ODI) career against Bangladesh at M A Aziz Stadium in Chattogram (Chittagong). Even though he started out on the wrong foot, he would be picked again for the ODI series against Pakistan the same year. It was in this match that he solidified his debut.

Next, MS Dhoni joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and was made captain of the CSK at the start of the Indian Premier League, leading India to the Twenty20 (T20) world title. His victories managed to place India at the top of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Suspended from the CSK for two whole years, he would be picked up as captain once again by Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016.

Dhoni played his first Test match against Sri Lanka at M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on December 2, 2005.

Come December 1st, 2006, and Dhoni made his debut in the T20 International against South Africa at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Dhoni would be named India’s captain thanks to the backing of senior players like Rahul Dravid.

Not only that, but he has also scored 10 hundred and 70 fifties.

Dhoni also holds the highest score of any wicketkeeper-batsman in the world with an ODI score of 187.

MS Dhoni has played in several editions of IPL, in 190 matches to be exact, and has a score of 4,432 runs with an average of 42.20 and a strike rate of 137.85.

He was awarded the ICC One Day International Player of the Year Award in 2008 and 2009, and is regarded as the first Indian wicket-keeper batsman to score 4,000 Test runs.

Dhoni was included in the Bihar U-19 in the 1999–2000 season and scored 176 runs in 5 matches. Dhoni would go on to make a half century in his debut match scoring 68 in the second innings against the Assam cricket team. Dhoni then scored his maiden first-class century against Bengal in a losing cause.

An extraordinary career in IPL makes him one of those cricketers who can be named among the kings of IPL.

MS Dhoni as Captain

In 2008, Anil Kumble started retirement, making room for someone to take his place as captain of the Indian cricket team. MS Dhoni filled his shoes and held the captain title for the longest format of the game.

India became the number one side in Test cricket in 2009 for the first time thanks to MS Dhoni’s efforts. He was also the first Indian wicketkeeper batsman to complete 4,000 runs in Test cricket.

It is under his captaincy that the Indian national team won the one-day Cricket World Cup in 2011. Another record is that of the most number of overseas Test defeats by an Indian captain, although that’s not one that Dhoni remembers fondly.

He led the star of India’s 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj Singh, to victory and offered support when Yuvraj was battling cancer.

Salary

When Mahendra Singh Dhoni joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the first season of the IPL he was offered Rs 15 crore, which roughly translates to around two million US dollars, making him the most expensive player in that year.

This investment would pay off as Singh Dhoni proved to be one of the best captains in the history of Indian cricket. His current net worth is around $110 million USD or 826 crore INR. His yearly income comes to be around 50 crore, or close to seven million USD.

MS Dhoni vs Virat Kohli

While the scores may favor Virat Kohli in most regards, he’s considered the best batsman across all formats, MS Dhoni has a lot of glories behind his name from leading India’s cricket team. When Dhoni started as captain of the Indian team, the sport itself had been having some tough luck, and Dhoni’s fresh ideas and intuitive attitude was exactly what Indian cricket needed to rise from the ashes.

It was no wonder that, in the eyes of many, Dhoni could do no wrong, considering how far he went to get so many wins, including the CB series, World T20, the Border-Gavaskar trophy, the Champions Trophy, and the ICC World Cup.

In terms of personality, both players seem total opposites of each other, with the youthful and vigorous energy that Kohli brought to the table contrasted against the calm, focused demeanor of Dhoni, Their play-styles reflect this as well, with Kohli’s passionate plays that manage to excite fans and critics alike, whereas the composure of Captain Cool was starting to wear down its novelty by the time Kholi was proposed to dethrone Dhoni.

So, while Kholi is a very competent and talented player, there’s a lot of expectations on the shoulders of the current captain of Indian cricket to live up to when compared to the legendary MS Dhoni.

Personality

MS Dhoni has made a name for himself throughout the years and countless victories, so it’s easy to forget that Signh’s story is that of rags-to-riches.

His humble background seems to have kept his feet on the ground, which would explain his warm attitude towards fans and people close to him.

But it’d be dishonest to say that this famous cricket player hasn’t taken advantage of his fortune since one of his most prominent hobbies besides cricket is riding awesome bikes and collecting supercars. He’s also known to enjoy football and is an avid dog lover.

MS Donhi started his primary and secondary education in DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Ranchi, Jharkhand, excelling at football & badminton. After his coach saw his potential and assigned him to the local cricket club, Dhoni decided to focus on that and was admitted to St. Xavier’s College. There, he was exempted from attending classes due to his busy schedule, but could not do the same for the second year so he decided to drop out.

Dhoni’s diet consists mostly of home cooked meals rich in carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Add to that a few fruits, salads, milk, and porridge and you have a pretty good idea of the kind of food Captain Cool is most fond of.

And of course, let’s not forget his favorite plate: butter chicken.

Hairstyle

The hairstyle of Singh has evolved as much as his career throughout the years.

From the long, golden hair in the start of his professional journey to the long straightened jet-black hair of the 2007 T20 World Cup time.

He would then trim his hair short for the 2008 summer and go bald after the 2011 WC victory.

He later adopted a salt and pepper look that accentuated his experience in the field. And he’s recently been seen in his trimmed black haircut.

He’s known to have dyed his hair a couple of times, mostly in his beginner years, but has kept the natural black as his staple for most of his life.

Beard style

Just like his hairstyle, Dhoni’s beard has changed throughout the years.

Now that he’s back in action from retirement for the remainder of the IPL 2022 season, he currently sports a slick, classic style of beard that his fans really enjoy.

Tattoos

Legendary Indian wicket keeper Batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni doesn’t have a single tattoo on his body and the reason it’s pretty simple. While the former captain has nothing against tattoos or anyone who’s inked, he is, however, very afraid of needles. Here’s the list of best cricketers’ tattos.

Family

Dhoni was born into a Rajput family, his father Pan Sing, worked in junior management positions before retiring and his mother Devaki Devi is a housewife.

He has an older brother called Narendra who’s currently a politician, and a sister called Jayanti Pandey who pushed Dhoni to pursue a career in cricket. She’s currently married and teaching.

Relationships

Mahi is married to Sakshi Rawat, his friend from childhood who supported him every step of the way.

Even though they grew apart over the years, the duo incidentally found each other again and began dating.

He proposed to her and married her the day after on July 4, 2010.

They had a daughter named Ziva, born on February 6, 2015. He regrets not having spent enough time with her in the early years of her life due to his busy career, and now dedicates much of his time to building their relationship.

He also has a best friend, Santosh Lal He, who would be the one to teach Dhoni his signature move, the Helicopter shot ( or Thappad shot) when they used to play cricket together in their youth. Sadly, Santosh lost a battle against pancreatitis and passed away in 2013.
