IPL Media Rights for 2025 Season
The IPL 2025 season will be the first to be broadcast after the big merger between Viacom18 and Star India. This merger formed a new company called JioStar. Before the merger, Star India’s Star Sports and Viacom18’s JioCinema had separate broadcasting rights for IPL. Star Sports had the rights for TV broadcasting, while JioCinema had the rights for streaming the matches online for the 2023 to 2027 IPL seasons.
After the merger, both TV and digital rights are now owned by JioStar. However, JioCinema, which was used to stream the matches, will be shut down. In place of JioCinema, Disney+ Hotstar will take over the digital streaming rights, as it had previously handled the digital rights for IPL from 2018 to 2022.
To summarize, for the IPL 2025 season, Star Network will handle the TV broadcasts, while Disney+ Hotstar will stream the matches online.
